About me

My name is Anke J. Kleim, I’m married and mother of a gorgeous little boy. I am a strong believer that a positive relationship to one’s body can change our lives in incredible ways and that everybody is able to learn and maintain this; feeling okay about the way we look is an integral component in living a physically and mentally healthy life and a key to happiness and life satisfaction. After my own intense body image journey, I know how body hatred feels, how energy-consuming it can be and to what extent it can affect your social life. But I have also experienced the magic moments that automatically come into your life once you’ve entered the path of self-acceptance and self-love. It is enchanting and if I could, I would probably try and fill everybody’s heart with this intense energy and love that comes from our innermost strength!

Professionally, I’ve been researching on body image since 2012 and I cannot think of any other topic that intrigues and motivates me more. Thus I consider it a privilege to work in a field that I personally feel so passionate about. I am currently enrolled as a part-time PhD student at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, UK, and I am studying from my home country Germany. If interested, you can check out my student profile here.
I have also given speeches and workshops on body image and been teaching several classes on body image, marketing and consumer behaviour at different higher education institutions. For instance, check out the following body positivity panel that I organised as part of an exclusive seminar series on body image at the University of Cologne during the fall term 2020/21:
